Enhanced Top/Bottom Limiting in Cloud Analytics

We present to you: Result Limiting 2.0!

As part of our quest to give you flexibility to analyze and understand your cloud spend, the new enhancements to the Limit filter will allow you to order your billing data the way you want.

This feature now enables you to:

- Limit either by Top or by Bottom results
- Choose what metric to use for limiting
- Set these limit parameters for each grouping!

Here is a short example:

Promotional Credits now available in Cloud Analytics

We are excited to announce that Cloud Analytics now contains Promotional Credits information!

This data is available today to increase reporting accuracy by listing all applied Promotional Credits (such as migration credits, commitment related credits, or vendor program credits), enabling you to have a more transparent view of the cost breakdown.

By default, including Promotional Credits is disabled, but you can enable it with the new "Include Promotional Credits" checkbox:

Resource identifiers now available in Cloud Analytics

We are excited to announce that Cloud Analytics now contains additional resource level data for Google Cloud!

Until recently Cloud Reporting in the CMP used the google standard billing export from BigQuery as its primary reporting dataset.  With this change, we are now using the detailed billing export which contains additional data.  Most notably, our data now contains several new dimensions that can be added to reports:

ResourceA service-specific identifier for the resource that generated relevant usage. This can be input generated by the user

★ Note: resource data is only available from August 11, 2021
Global ResourceA globally unique service identifier for the resource that generated relevant usage.

More information on the raw data from Google can be found here

This data is available today to increase your ability to understand individual cost drivers and map that directly to your compute resources!

Additionally, the consumption of this more detailed data artifact will allow us to more quickly release newer features from Google as they are added.

Spot Scaling Auto-Enrollment

We are thrilled to announce the ability to apply Spot Scaling recommendations using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, like Terraform and AWS CloudFormation, in addition to the option existing in the Cloud Management Platform(CMP).

Spot Scaling Auto-Enrollment is ideal for DevOps or Platforms teams who prefer using IaC tools to deploy and maintain their cloud infrastructure.

To enable Auto-Enrollment, add the following tag to your AWS AutoScalingGroup:

  • Key: doitintl:spotscaling:auto-enroll
  • Value: always

To enable fallback to on-demand, add the following tag to your AWS AutoScalingGroup:

  • Key: doitintl:fallback-to-on-demand
  • Value: true

We continue to support more Spot Scaling capabilities by leveraging AWS AutoScalingGroup tags!

For more details about this new feature, please visit the official documentation: https://help.doit-intl.com/docs/spot-scaling/setup#spot-scaling-auto-enrollment

Anomalies by Attribution

We are excited to announce that two of our most powerful features can now be used together to increase insights and cloud governance effectiveness!

Our Cost Anomaly feature offers end-to-end monitoring of spikes in your Google Cloud or Amazon Web Services billing, seamlessly, across all your projects and services.

Cost attributions are a flexible way to group resources and their associated costs, helping you understand the cloud costs and relate them to the business in your Cloud Reports.

Now, you are able to monitor individual attributions for anomalies.  Often, in addition to watching for spikes across your whole spend, you want to understand variance within a single context.  For instance, business seasonality can obscure spikes in costs in R&D projects.  Creating an attribution using  team and environment labels and monitoring it for anomalies will allow you to check for abnormal spikes for only that single slice of your business.

Or perhaps you only want to monitor anomalies for a given SKU, simply create an attribution defining that SKU, enable for monitoring and we will begin processing that scope for future alerts.

Not only will these checks be more detailed, but they already carry business context by basing themselves on your attributions.

To activate - click on the 3-dot menu in the Attribution List

Select Edit Settings

And choose Monitor for Cost Anomalies > Save

Then your anomalies will begin to be monitored and alert!

All alerts will follow the same notification paths, and they will contain an additional Attribution field indicating their detection scope.

Quick Attribution Creation

We are excited to announce the ability to quickly create Attributions within our Budgets feature.  Frequently you want to create budgets for something simple - a single project/account, a single tag, or a few services.  We created the ability to generate simple attributions in-line to the Budget management page to ease this process for customers.

Attributions are a powerful and essential tool within the CMP.  They allow you to provide context to parts of your cloud cost and usage.  Being able to report with business context provides clarity, insights, and eases the burden of collaboration across groups.  Understanding your spend across development teams, understanding cost drivers within a product or product line, or how it splits across your development environments allows your teams to make quick and consistent decisions.

We continue to support attributions and this new pattern across more and more features - Cloud Analytics, Metrics, Organizations, Budgets, Daily Digests too!

Adding week start date to Week dimension

To improve the human readability of our cloud reporting we have added the week start date to the dimension itself. Previously we show weeks using the universal ISO Format W01 W02 W03 ... W21 W52. Now the format will be

w51 (Dec 20), W52 (Dec 27), W01 (Jan 03) ...

The data is reflective of the Monday that starts the week, consistent with the ISO standard week.

Sort by individual column

One of the most requested features since launching the ability to show the differences between columns in our analytics tools, has been the ability to sort.  We are pleased to announce that in any tabular view, you can now sort by an individual column by clicking on that column header.

This feature enhancement will allow you to quickly see the largest % or absolute change, or even the largest cost or savings within a given time period.  We hope this flexibility allows customers to more quickly identify and act on the most important numbers in any given view.
