Google Cloud PD SSD Rightsizing Opportunities

We’ve released a new CloudFlow template that helps you confidently identify over-provisioned Google Cloud Persistent Disk SSD (pd-ssd) volumes using real performance metrics — not just billing signals. FinOps data often shows where savings might exist. CloudOps needs proof that performance won’t regress.

This new CloudFlow template bridges that gap. CloudFlow is the automation engine inside DoiT Cloud Intelligence. It lets you build and run workflows that combine billing data, cloud configuration, and monitoring metrics to continuously detect, validate, and operationalize optimization opportunities.

What it does

The flow analyzes:

  • Disk type: pd-ssd
  • Historical peak IOPS
  • Historical peak throughput
  • Activity trends across the analysis window

Disks consistently operating within the performance envelope of pd-balanced are flagged as strong rightsizing candidates.

Why it matters

“Move from Performance SSDs to Balanced SSDs” is currently the #4 FinOps Insight across customers. Customers told us the same thing: the savings are clear — but execution feels risky. This template adds a metrics-based confirmation layer, so you can move from theoretical savings to technically validated action.

Insight → shows where to look
CloudFlow → confirms what can safely change

Together, they increase realization rates while reducing operational friction.

The flow does not modify disks. It surfaces candidates only. Rightsizing should be performed during a maintenance window and followed by performance validation.
